ANTI-AI MANGA!!!! Urasawa’s Latest Manga is About Writing Manga! The Last Manga Classroom Chapter 1 Spoilers!

On August 12, 2026, Naokia Urasawa, famous for works like Monster, Pluto and 20th Century Boys, adds a second manga to his current workload alongside Asadora.

Titled, “The Last Classroom”, the premise is simple:

“In a time where AI does everything for you, what is Urasawa doing?”

Chapter 1 is titled, “Entrance Ceremony”

Editor’s note: “Is this the book of hope left behind for humanity?”

This has 10 pages.

Interestingly, the entire chapter is colored, leaving questions over whether or not this will translate to the rest of the work.

The chapter begins with a manga of a fox-masked character riding on a motorbike with a pin on his mouth with a letter G on it, saying farewell to his friends as he heads off to a world where he is no longer needed.

Rather than ceramic, it is said that the Masked Rider wears a mask made of glass where you could almost faintly see his face.

This is the end of Volume 1 of “The Glass Masked Rider” by Mannouji Gaki.

The boy, named Ishimata Shimohira, reading this remarks that he has the original first volume and looks behind and sees that there are 224 volumes of this, all stretching back to the “rental manga era”, which is the mid-1950s and early 1960s.

This era began to collapse in the mid-1960s as when the national economy improved, weekly manga magazines gained dominance, and cheaper paperback tankobon volumes flooded the market.

If this manga reached 224 volumes during that period, if we are generous, then it started around the mid 1960s.

That is because we do have an ongoing manga in the real world that comes to this amount of volumes: Golgo 13 by the late Takao Saito (1936-2021), which releases chapters every 2 weeks and has reached 220 volumes as of April 2026, since its start in October 1968.

However, the boy remarks that the first volume has been redrawn in the modern day and expresses his wish to learn manga directly from Gaki.

He sees the address: 3-5-28 Eboshigafuchi 3-chome, Nerima Ward, Tokyo

This is where we get the title drop as Shimohara is led to an obscure, old mansion.

Suddenly, the boy gets pelted with persimmons by a taller boy named Leonardo, who stands on a branch and reveals persimmons are Gaki’s favorite fruit.

We see an artist draw the scene, with Leonardo telling Shimohara not to move.

Shimohara introduces himself to the old man, who is identified as Gaki himself but as the boy runs, he falls into swampy water, still clinging to his tablet.

The old man scolds Shimohara for not listening to Leonardo as he was about to warn the main character about the swamp.

The old man grabs the boy’s tablet, which Shimohara claims is the latest model.

Hearing this, the old man throws it away.

He makes the boy choose between saving his expensive tablet or his own life, a direct demonstration of how far people have sunken in value, that technology and capital are of more worth than their own lives.

The man gives Shimohara the stick and the boy chooses to save his life, with the old man’s face revealed as Gaki says that to become his apprentice, technology is not needed.

Some mangaka, such as Yoshihiro Togashi, Boichi, and Inio Asano, have considered the usage of generative AI, especially in a perilous industry like writing manga, particularly the grueling weekly grind.

However, others, such as Hirohiko Araki of Jojo’s and now Naoki Urasawa, are speaking out against this trend, with Urasawa choosing this colored manga of all things as his mouthpiece.

Can this mangaka prove the final bastion against the rise of AI reliance?

The Last Classroom will be released once every two months, meaning 6 chapters a year maximum.

Chapter 2 will be released on October 12, 2026.
