Kunishige’s TRAGIC ORIGIN STORY! How He Fell in Love with Chiaki! Kagurabachi Chapter 126 Spoilers!

In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, Kunishige and Urita begin the smelting of the Datenseki to be used to create the Enchanted Blades.

What a way to end the month-long hiatus.

Kagurabachi Chapter 126 is titled, “Fire”

Released on July 27th, this chapter has 19 pages.

We finally get Kunishige Rokuhira’s backstory as a child.

A blacksmith by trade, he inherited his father’s eyes but Kunishige had redder eyes, something his father was proud of.

However, at home, his father was an abusive drunk who would hit him and his mother.

Kunishige’s mother would make him swear not to become like his father.

The man was so abusive that when his dead body was found at a forge as a result of an altercation with a customer, Kunishige’s mother felt relieved and apologized for all the days he suffered.

So Kunishige swore to protect his mother.

The father did leave behind some money for them to survive but the mother lost sight in one eye from the beatings and could not work.

And this frustration made her become abusive too since as he grew older, Kunishige began to resemble his father a bit more, especially as she tried to hurt his eyes that his father was proud of and because of the way he looked at her giving her memories of his beating.

The way his left eye is opened when his mother tried to cover up his right resembles how Kunishige would later die with his left eye open and the right one closed.

Just as how his mother’s right eye was blind.

Eventually, his mother left him, with a note saying “I am sorry”.

He was orphaned at 9 years old because of his mother choosing to leave behind her son to avoid making them both suffer.

This explains everything about Kunishige’s behavior as an adult, even as Chihiro’s father.

He was unable to take care of himself properly because he never got a chance to learn and because he himself lived with survivor’s guilt.

Of all his loved ones leaving him, making his life feel cursed.

And eventually he would bear the burden of cursing his brother-in-law with the power of the Enchanted Blade and living for 15 years on a lie.

Then at 12 years old, one summer, his loneliness drifted.

After being orphaned at 9 years old, he was not really seen much in school but befriended three other kids: Soshiro Azami, Togo Shiba and Chiaki Soga.

But then slowly he felt like these were the friends he wanted to protect.

That desire to protect scared him as he felt like he would eventually lose them too.

While laying in his sofa one rainy day, Kunishige thought about his mom and how she was better off without him and the same goes for his friends.

Then there was a blackout due to the rain and he spots Chiaki downstairs.

In the middle of the rain for two hours, Chiaki would wait for Kunishige out of worry since Kunishige has not been seen for two weeks.

While preparing a meal for him, Chiaki was surprised he only ate cup noodles and store-bought food, so she offers to cook for him again.

As Kunishige samples her dish, he cries as it was delicious, likely the first real meal he ate in three years.

So Chiaki pats his head.

With the rain gone for a while, we end the chapter with the two running with sparklers in the night, a haunting visual representation of their loving bond that will eventually end in tragedy due to the Seitei War.
