TRUE MESSIAH GUTS, HIS FULL BIRTH EXPLAINED! GUTS IS HALF GOD!!!! Berserk Chapter 384 Spoilers!

With Guts’ rebirth as the true Chosen One of Berserk, are we finally entering the final saga of the series?

BERSERK © 1989 by Kentaru Miura and Kouji Mori/Hakusensha

In the previous Berserk chapter, Guts is sealed in the stupa and crouches down in fetal position as he submerges in absolute darkness.

Berserk Chapter 384 is titled, “The Shifting Mirrorlike Waters and the Lingering Glow of Eidotic Fires”

This chapter has 26 pages.

Caption: “The first of three consecutive chapters!!!

In the pitch-black darkness, only one thing remains.

Editor’s note: “What’s going on in Guts’s mind?!”

There is a reason for this 9-month break since September 2025.

In his afterword, Kouji Mori explained that this chapter is the one Kentaro Miura struggled with for 20 years, meaning ever since as far back as 2001, which is around when the Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc started.

The title is another example of later Berserk’s usage of deeper Buddhist concepts,.

The Water Mirror is a reflection of the truth or the soul.

However it is “Shifting” or more accurate, transient and passing

Because in Buddhism, the self is no self.

Meanwhile the other half of the title, Eidotic or Memory-Evoking Fires, talks about how Flora’s fire spirits reveal Guts’ past.

Put together, the chapter title is a story of rebirth based on one’s origins.

Guts’ Past

Entering a reverse birthing scene, Guts drowns in the ocean of existence, as he recalls how nothing he did went right and it transitions into Guts wearing the Berserker Armor, possessed by the Beast of Darkness.

Here, he says that all Guts does is destroy everything, referring to that darkness in himself that was built from so much trauma.

He sees his sorrow when he left Griffith in the morning duel in the snow.

He also recalls being alone in the campfire, which also represents the Bonfire of Dreams that the Band of the Hawk once represent for him and the rest.

While he was camping alone after leaving Griffith, he had realized what he had lost.

As he dwells deeper in sorrow, many voices chatter and this leads into Guts facing Flora, who burned her own house, the Forest of Spirit Trees and turned herself into a fire spirit to save Guts’s Party and her pupil Schierke from Grunbeld, one of Griffith’s Apostles.

Surrounded by fire spirits, Flora tells Guts to look truly at himself.

All the while cradling the adult Guts like a child.

Soon, Guts goes deeper into his soul, screaming as all his memories come into him, including all his trauma, losing Gambino and we return…

To the place of his birth.

The dead trees with hanging corpses.

Guts was born from the corpse of his own mother, an omen of a terrible life.

Guts is HALF ASTRAL??

And then, we get the biggest twist in the entire series since the Eclipse.

Guts was born from the Astral World.

And this was something Miura wanted to convey throughout the 35 years of Berserk’s run, a point that was planted by the story’s design.

Guts’ birth was too unusual, as there would have been no way a baby survived long enough in the womb of a woman’s corpse that have been decomposing for so long.

A half man with only half his body after losing an eye and a hand, who is always one foot in the Astral World ever since the Eclipse, and he achieves a “reverse Eclipse” by achieving a state of death.

We see a similar sequence to Griffith descending into the Abyss during his own rebirth at the start of the chapter and it culminates here as Guts takes in all his memories and reaches his origin.

He is born like a teardrop, like a Behelit as shown in Chapter 82, before the now “removed” Chapter 83 that prematurely revealed the Idea of Evil.

Knowing his nature as like all humans born from the Astral World ocean, from the Tears of the Astral World like the Behelit,

Free from his regrets, free from the rage of the Beast of Darkness, Guts attained complete understanding of the universe, of not being unique but a part of a greater cosmic truth that everyone else is, and by doing so, he has been freed from the rules of desire that dominate Berserk.

As Griffith is God, the Absolute, Griffith is Humanity, the Everything.

We Are The Same: Guts and Griffith

The chapter ends with an incredible shot of Guts, now with white hair just like Griffith, standing side by side, with Flora saying that they are both of the same nature, as beings of the Interstice.

It is interesting how Griffith was a boy born with white hair, which could be a symbol of purity or an oddity.

Although Guts’ white hair streaks obviously came from the stress of the Berserker armor, if his hair turned fully white here, it would be like how Gandalf the Grey turned into Gandalf the White, a spiritual promotion.

And that would complete Guts’ lowkey journey of being a bishonen protagonist, being in the same leadership and attractiveness position as Griffith among his band.

Guts is the only one who can beat Griffith now, as he not only learned of his part-Astral heritage but also attained understanding of the No Self, where his intent and desires cannot be read for he has been truly free.

Will their next encounter have an enlightened Guts tell Griffith he is free of the trauma and, like the Morning Duel, defeat the god of ego with one strike?

It could even be possible that this is why Miura did not want to prematurely release Chapter 83, which for those who have not seen the chapter, reveals the existence of the Idea of Evil, the supposed “god” of Berserk’s universe, when Griffith meets this being and wishes for wings.

Editor’s Note: “He confronted himself, and there he found a self he was unaware of.”

Berserk Chapter 385 will be released on June 26, 2026.
