Late One Piece and Dragon Ball Director Wins Crunchyroll’s 2nd Global Impact Award
Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards pays tributes to the unforgettable legend who directed two of the most iconic anime moments of the 21st century
On May 23, 2026, the 10th Crunchyroll Awards were hosted and in it, the Global Impact Award was posthomusly awarded to Tatsuya Nagamine, who served as series director for Dragon Ball Super (2017-2018) and the 2018 film Dragon Ball Super: Broly and the One Piece anime from 2019-2024, handling the Wano Arc all the way to Part 1 of Egghead.
Under Nagamine’s watch, anime fans witnessed both Ultra Instinct and Gear 5, creating two of the most hype and legendary moments of the 21st century.
Nagamine has passed away on August 20, 2025 at the age of 53.
The Global Impact Award was awarded to honor the works and people responsible for anime series that have changed popular culture.
This award was first created during the 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2025 and given to Yuichiro Hayashi, the director of the Final Season of Attack on Titan, who also claims the award on behalf of the director of the first three seasons, Tetsuro Araki.
