Detective Conan Voice Actress Passes Away
A big loss for the Detective Conan and One Piece fan communities as Wakana Yamazaki has sadly passed on
On May 15, 2026, it was announced that voice actress Wakana Yamazaki has passed away on April 18th at the age of 61 after a long battle with an undisclosed chronic illness.
She is the voice behind Ran Mouri, the girlfriend of the protagonist, Shinichi Kudo, from Detective Conan.
Previously on February 16th, Yamazaki had gone on hiatus due to her illness and so Akemi Okamura, the voice of Nami in One Piece, filled the role.
Okamura has done two other notable voice roles for Detective Conan since 2009, including Yasue Taira, Rumi Kitao and Midori Koyanagi.
Both Okamura and Yamazaki have a close relationship and have voiced together in One Piece.
In One Piece, Yamazaki has also voiced Nojiko, Nami’s adopted sister.
In a twist of fate, she has filled in for Okamura to voice Nami during the Little Garden Arc (Episode 70-78), which aired from May 27 to August 26, 2001, when Okamura was on maternity leave.
Due to thie relationship and how similar their voices are, Akemi will continue to reprise the role of Ran Mouri
