On March 29, 2026, it was announced on AnimeJapan 2026 that Fate/Strange Fake will have a second season.

However, at the same time, it was also announced that the light novel by Durarara! and Baccano! creator Ryougo Narita and Morii Shizuki will end with the upcoming Volume 10 to be released in Summer 2026, around July to September.

Of note, the first season adapted half of the series, with the TV special “Whispers of the Dawn” adapting all of Volume 1 while the remaining 13 episodes adapted Volumes 2 through 5.

This means that the next season will adapt the latter half of the light novel.

The new season may likely be released around late 2027, if no delays hamper it like Season 1 suffered since 2022,

The anime was produced by A1 Pictures (Kaguya-Sama, Solo Leveling), directed by Shun Enokido and Takahito Sakazume (both episode directors on Fate/Apocrypha), with character designs by Yūkei Yamada (Fate/Apocrypha) and music by Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Seven Deadly Sins, Solo Leveling).

First written as an April Fool’s prank on April 1, 2008 called “Fake/states Night”, Fate/Strange Fake is a spinoff written on January 10, 2015 and part of the Fate universe originally conceived by Kinoko Nasu and Takashi Takeuchi for Type-Moon, beginning with the visual novel Fate/Stay Night (January 30, 2004), with the prequel light novel Fate/Zero (December 29, 2006) penned by Gen Urobuchi, the screenwriter behind Psycho-Pass and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

The Fate franchise covers the events of the Holy Grail War and its variants, a battle royale where mages summon Servants, the spirits of legendary heroes from world history and myth.

Meanwhile, Fate/Strange Fake is set five years after Fate/Stay Night’s Fifth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki and has its own Holy Grail War that was able to mimic the Fuyuki Grail War except it was unable to summon the Saber Class and also led to the rise of “Strange” Servants.
