Bugs Are a Fate Worse Than Death?? Chainsaw Man Chapter 230 Review!
This is a fate worse than death: a world constantly reproducing. Can Denji overcome a world of endless bugs and save Asa and Yoru?
In the previous Chainsaw Man chapter, Yoru reflects on the meaning of guilt while laughing at Denji’s request for sex.
Chainsaw Man Chapter 230 is titled, “Sex and Evolution”.
Released on February 24, 2026, this chapter has 15 pages.
The chapter begins with Yoru asking Denji his own thoughts of why she of all Devils would avoid a dove.
Denji wants the sex but Yoru wants an answer.
Denji explains that she has a friend who tried to kill him every chance she got but she had a soft spot for animals, so Denji thought Yoru would be like her.
Perhaps this is also tied to how Denji sees Power in Asa, as a friend he badly longed for and missed.
Yoru asks why Denji was hoping Yoru would be like Power and Denji says that he is lonely and would like a friend.
Yoru asks if Denji is okay with them being just friends, albeit with Denji stipulating that he wants a friend to have sex with.
Taking blood from Denji’s blood pool to feed him, Yoru declares a temporary truce, will have sex with Denji and says that Asa also gives her consent.
Denji turns back to human form and cheers, yet many Bug Devils appear to ruin their time.
Denji cheering about a Power-esuqe character giving consent for sexual gratification in the midst of things going wrong?
Feels like a reference to Chapter 9: “Rescue”, where Denji cheered when Power offered to let Denji fondle her chest, only for one of his arms to get cut off by the Leech Devil.
Sex and Meaning
There is a surprising amount of nuance we get from this chapter.
A guilty Devil and a boy who only wanted a friend have sex while the Deathless World is on reproductive overload.
The sexual experience is different for both characters.
Devils do not have a concept of reproductive instinct that makes sex into either a life drive or a meaningful exercise.
But speaking of…
The World of Fumikos: The Greatest Fear Worse than Death
We cut to various parts of the world being devoured by insects and their Devils.
India Fumiko reports in.
In India, bats are eating up people.
If this is the case, then the Bat Devil will be revived and gain much strength.
Canada Fumiko also reports the presence of insect swams devouring people.
India Fumiko does not understand why this is happening.
Canada Fumiko explains the concept of natural selection.
Normally, high fertility equals high death rates, high culling at birth but now that “life has no end”, natural selection is no longer at play and all offspring live forever.
Hold on…HOW does Fumiko remember Death??
Cull is still a “death” word.
This could be because of the Confirmation method: In Chapter 173: “Hard of Hearing”, the Public Safety Devil Hunters monitoring Chainsaw Man’s awakening were able to figure out what Chainsaw Man was about to target.
Knowing the Devil and what they are prior to erasure enables them to retain memories.
Because Fumiko is scattered around the world as confirmed in Chapter 212: “Really Good Girl”, this means that each Fumiko is able to confirm to the rest what is being erased.
That includes the very primordial concept of death itself.
Due to the mass production of insects and other animals, the animalistic devils have gained more strength.
Especially those with shorter lifespans and high fertility such as rodents and insects.
The purpose of reproduction, which is to preserve the being’s DNA, is no longer there and so essentially, all life are printing carbon copies willy-nilly.
Now the truly horrifying part comes in.
What happens to the deathless people who get eaten by these animals?
Well, they end up alive in the cells of the animals that absorbed them.
Rather than simply eating them whole, humans will be eaten in little pieces, just enough for reproduction since animals will also not experience the need to eat to survive.
We cannot confirm if Famine is still alive since last time we saw her, she was decapitated.
This means all life still hungers but the need to eat for survival is replaced with the need to eat to reproduce.
Hunger becomes a Fear and instinct to intensify reproduction.
However, India Fumiko is cut off as she is also being eaten by the bats.
Yet Canada Fumiko continues discussing how all of them once gathered in the Canada villa to discuss their worst fears.
Even though they are all Fumiko Mifune, they each had different worst fears.
Sickness, other humans, and war.
Canada Fumiko could not decide hers but she knows now that she is facing it as cockroaches slips through the closed door, preparing to eat her.
Forgotten Catchphrase
Yoru tells Denji they are low on blood and should ride and hide.
However, Denji refuses.
The chapter ends with Denji saying that if the insects and Insect Devils get in their way, he will do something but fails to figure out what he is about to say.
This is a reference to Chapter 1 of Chainsaw Man, where Denji tells the zombified yakuza that he will kill them.
But since Death does not exist, any Death words are erased too.
Chainsaw Man Chapter 231 will be released on March 11, 2026.
