Goodbye Seiichi Samura. Kagurabachi Chapter 111 Spoilers.

A mere distraction to help Chihiro escape, Samura offers his life as a burning flame for the future. Now, the Kagurabachi timeskip is about to begin.

In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, the final battle between Samura and the Sword Saint Soga Akemura begins in earnest.

Kagurabachi Chapter 111 is titled, “At The Summit”

This chapter has 19 pages.

The chapter begins with a flashback from about 20 years ago as we see Soga meet Samura, who the former recognizes by his eye scars, for the first time as Samura is shocked by the bloody sword Soga is wielding.

By this point, Samura had already blinded himself.

Noting that Soga is also a man burdened by duty, Samura remarks that it sucks but Soga easily accepts it as the burden of those who wield katanas, signifying a sense of privilege over wielding the sword, wielding power.

Samura recalls how when he met Soga, he stood atop a mountain of corpses filled with scum, so he saw that in common, a desire to cleanse the world.

Soga would say he is looking forward to days of peace.

But then Samura narrates how the war changed him.

Now Samura meditates on how Samura will be the one to cut down Soga, viewing Soga as the one responsible for everything.

Samura sees how his black flames counter Magatsumi’s black energy that boosts Soga’s vitality and instantly heals his wounds.

This means Soga is defenseless and can be wounded for real.

Meanwhile, Soga notes that Samura is already burning his life away, so doing nothing will kill him, not to mention how in spite of his wounded state, Samura is still the fastest swordsman in the series.

Samura then apologizes to Soga but Soga dismisses him, saying that there is only one thing left for both of them to do: to end the battle in one singular strike.

We then cut to an incredible double-page spread of them in blurry lines, signifying the pressure and speed from their swordsmanship.

Magatsumi’s passive decay rots the debris from their fight while Tobimune’s flames restore the debris back to their original form.

It is almost like both swords were opposites of each other as of this moment.

However, it is too late.

For Samura…

This was bound to happen.

Samura parts his last words, as he laments how war has cursed their very lives.

Because of the war, Soga Akemura became a heartless monster for the nation.

Because of the war, Samura was unable to face his daughter.

But Chihiro, the son of the blacksmith who made the accursed Enchanted Blades, freed Samura from the curse.

So Samura prays the same curse is lifted from Soga.

So Samura is bisected and as his upper half flies, fading away as he tells Iori that it will be a little while longer.

Poor Iori.

She finally remembered and reunited with her father for a day and now she loses him.

From his formal introduction in Chapter 50: “Interception” to this chapter, across the 60 chapters of his appearance in Kagurabachi’s longest and ongoing arc, the Sword Bearer Assassination Arc, Samura has been one of the most remarkable characters ever written by Takeru Hokazono.

A remorseful, duty-burdened man, who, in a way, is a precursor to the extremist Sword Saint yet one who was redeemed by the same curse of the Enchanted Blade by our protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira.

And now, even with only a mere minute of defiance at the end of his life, Samura gave Chihiro an example to follow, a flame to strengthen his resolve even after losing Enten in Chapter 108: “Enten vs Magatsumi”.

Soga notices that Shiba has already taken Chihiro to safety.

Later, Soga floats down to meet with the injured Kasen, who was pummeled by Azuma and left to die in Chapter 96: “Urgency”

Soga asks Kasen what the Kamunabi is working towards, which Kasen says is to eliminate any threats to the nation.

Soga points out that the nation is its people, so he will take steps towards that goal.

Soga intends to make a binding vow…I mean Lifelong Contract with Yura’s body, thereby granting him permanent control over Yura’s body.

Will Yura, the leader of the Hishaku who has dominated the series since the very beginning, be gone forever by this point?

Has he taken his final bow?

It seems that Yura and his aura-farming moments have ended.

The man who lost his wife to scoundrels after the Seitei War, who sacrificed everything and his own being “to wield the Shinuchi”, has died to complete his goal.

Samura is confirmed dead and Yura is about to be erased.

Soga also has other troubling matters, likely referring to the hunt for Chihiro and Shiba.

By allowing the Sword Saint to take his body, to become a weapon, a vessel, for Yura’s revenge and desire.

Soga recalls twice the words Samura left him with about why he chose to fight for Chihiro’s sake, saying that “everything is starting for him”.

Chihiro’s eyes witnessed everything about Magatsumi, the means to cancel its decay.

While Samura’s soul is saved from the curse of war by Chihiro’s sharpened resolve and by the love of his daughter, Soga lives as a cursed entity, alone in deciding the fate of the nation.

Soga orders Kasen to change the center of the Kamunabi to himself and Magatsumi as he intends to reveal the Enchanted Blades to the world.

The chapter ends with Soga formally declaring a new change to the entire country of Japan.

The Kamunabi will now be a dictatorship where Soga Akemura, the Sword Saint, shall rule with the power of the Magatsumi.

We are entering a timeskip, where Kagurabachi will change forever.

Chihiro has lost Enten.

Samura is dead and so, Tobimune is dead, leaving only four Enchanted Blades, all in the hands of the enemy.

Two more Sword Bearers need to be found.

The Hishaku and Kamunabi are one now.

Yura will be gone so that Soga can take charge of both organizations.

Together, they have the Magatsumi, the Kumeyuri and the remaining two Enchanted Blades.

It is clear what will happen next.

Chihiro must channel his roots as a Rokuhira Blacksmith, reforge Enten into a stronger counter to Magatsumi, find the other two Sword Bearers and challenge Soga Akemura, his uncle, once again.
