Is This the End of Chainsaw Man Part 2? Yoru and Asa Are Now ONE. Chainsaw Man Chapter 228 Review!

In the previous Chainsaw Man chapter, after Denji Man easily defeats Locust Devil, Yoru takes over Asa’s body again to seemingly end him.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 228 is titled, “Dove”

This chapter has 15 pages.

Crows gather, the birds of death.

Yoru’s appearance is that of a black bird.

The name “Yoru” means “night” while her counterpart and vessel, “Asa”, means “morning”

Under the reign of War, the Deathless World is in a state of night in a way, as everyone is tortured by pain and resentment without being able to end it in the peace of death.

Now Denji’s insides are opened up and without his legs or his left arm, he slowly crawls using chains to pull himself around.

Looking bored, Yoru then rides her Chainsaw Motorcycle and slices through a random civilian passing by and prepares to slice Denji Man up.

However, Denji barfs out a bird.

This might be Guilly, the Guillotine Devil, which Pochita ate in Chapter 218: “Eat Me”,

The sight of the bird reminds Yoru of Bucky the Chicken Devil, which Asa accidentally killed at the start of Part 2 and ironically also led her to being possessed by another bird devil, Yoru herself.

But this memory causes Yoru to go too fast and be sent flying off the bike and into a wall.

This punches a hole through her head, leading her to bleed out with a wound that does not heal.

Yoru is in the same state as Asa is in, close to death or, in this case, to constant agony in a Deathless state.

Yoru is shocked by how her wound is not healing.

Denji explains that Yoru’s contact from Chapter 216: “Yearning” specifically states that any attacks directed against Yoru will be shouldered by American citizens.

When she landed herself to the school wall, America did not help her because Yoru injured herself.

Asa stands over the bleeding Yoru and asks why did she avoid that dove.

To which Yoru says that she knows that Asa hates seeing birds killed.

It is clear now that the two separate beings have melded into one.

Notice how Yoru liked the Moral Eel Devil?

Or how Yoru is still a dork who monologues?

Now she is afraid of harming birds.

Asa’s influence over Yoru has strengthened due to their unique “half-Fiend” situation, where half of Asa’s brain is Yoru’s.

Now Yoru’s own brain is bleeding out and Asa is standing over, looking at a Devil who is nearing her end.

Another bird closing towards death because of Asa.

But this time, rather than guilt consuming Asa, it is consuming Yoru, the guilt of having killed birds and also having felt that guilt.

This is why guilt is the source of War’s power.

In each war and battle, by whatever personal justice, there is always guilt over some small lives lost.

And Asa is the conscience Yoru needed to realize her full self, not as a mere Devil who uses other Devils as her power and allies but as a person.

So what will happen now?

If Yoru leaves Asa’s body as part of Denji’s ultimatum, there is a chance that Asa too will be feeling the pain, both of having only half a brain and the recent injury to her own body.

The problem is that it is likely that Denji really will save Asa.

This is a Deathless World so Asa’s condition from before will not be in effect.

She will simply be in great pain.

Or will there be a workaround, where Asa and Yoru become one person, without any real difference, like how the Puppetmaster from the original Ghost in the Shell film became one with Major Kusanagi.

Are we entering the finale?

A recent announcement from editor Shihei Lin suggests that could be the case.

For context, on November 20, 2020, Lin also announced that Chainsaw Man Part 1 was entering its “final phase” and indeed it ended within 3 chapters.

With how each chapter has been around 15 pages, it is more likely that the final volume 24 will reach either Chapter 233 or Chapter 234, meaning there are 5-6 chapters left, with the possibility of March 25, 2026 or early April 2026 being the final chapter date.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 229 will be released on February 18, 2026.
