On January 9, 2026, it was announced that “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- Infinity Castle” has made it to the longlist for the 79th BAFTA Film Awards, Best Animated Film Category.

This is the third major longlist Demon Slayer has been a part of, alongside the Oscars and Golden Globe.

Alongside Demon Slayer, others in the longlist include:

  • Arco
  • The Bad Guys 2
  • Elio
  • Little Amelie
  • Zootopia 2

From this list of six, four could be chosen, with Demon Slayer having the highest odds compared to the previous Award Shows mentioned.

Interestingly, K-Pop Demon Hunters, a popular Netflix film, was not included.

Established in 2006, the Best Animated Film Category saw only one anime film from Japan, “The Boy and the Heron” directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli, to be nominated and also win the award, having gained acclaim in the 2023 Award Show.

Founded on May 29, 1949, the British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs or BAFTA Awards, is an annual film award show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to honor British and international films, as well as television shows and video games.
