Kaguya Sama: Love is War ANIME ORIGINAL Ending Announced

Kaguya-Sama: Love is War’s anime will have an anime original conclusion, creating much uproar among its fans as more content is being skipped while potentially improving on an otherwise mixed ending.

On December 31, 2025, after the release of the TV special, “The Stairs to Adulthood”, it was announced that a final movie would be released, written by the author Aka Akasaka himself.

The special adapted: Chapter 163, Chapter 170, one chapter from the “End of Secrets” Arc (Chapter 191), the last three chapters of the “The ABCs of Men and Women” Arc (Chapter 218 to 221), and the last two chapters of “Shirogane’s Departure” Arc (Chapter 266 and Chapter 267).

However, the new movie will skip the last two arcs: Everyday Life Arc (Chapter 268 to 270) and Farewell Arc (Chapter 272 to 281), creating an anime original ending.

This alternative conclusion is stated by Akasaka to be “something new, yet nostalgic”.

According to author, roughly four years ago, he and the anime team shared a vision and agreed that “Kaguya-sama” anime series will be not just an adaptation of manga, but will be serve for something entirely new interesting that no one had ever seen before.

Since then, Akasaka thought about what could be best for an anime original.

One day he came up with an idea knew it’s the only way to move forward but at the same time, it is noted to be challenging and will be tough for anime staff—a “slightly unreasonable curveball”.

Lastly, Akasaka hopes fans will enjoy one last ride.

Like with the TV special, fans are concerned over the anime constantly skipping plotlines and now they are seeing that the manga ending will not be adapted at all and will be replaced by a new storyline.

Would this indicate dissatisfaction on Akasaka’s part or was this in response to the negative feedback surrounding the original ending?

Anime-original conclusions are nothing new but they usually come up in different scenarios.

For the most part, they are a result of the manga not being finished, as Studio Bones’ history with Soul Eater and Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) shows, although with Fullmetal Alchemist, by 2009 to 2010, they adapted the rest of the manga in a new, more popular revival.

Alternatively, the series could be rushed due to production constraints or other behind the scenes circumstances as with the case of The Promised Neverland Season 2, which not only skipped its most popular arc, Goldy Pond, removing a beloved character like Yugo, but also converting majority of the final three arcs into a slideshow at the final episode.

Attack on Titan maintained the same ending but polished its most controversial scenes in the “The Final Chapter” with growing self-awareness over fan responses and more expanded dialogue written by the original author, Hajime Isayama himself.

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War is a unique case of the manga author, Tite Kubo, being directly involved in the production process for the entirety of the final arc, storyboarding some crucial scenes, designing new characters such as the original Gotei 13 Captains, and expanding the content of the 200+ chapter arc with fanservice, expanded powers, updated lore that was first introduced in the light novels such as “Can’t Fear Your Own World”, and newer content in general, resulting in a newer ending that did not erase the original content.
