Did Kishimoto DELETE JOGAN From the Canon? Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 29 Spoilers!
Did this chapter officially confirm that the Boruto anime is NO LONGER Canon?
In the previous Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter, Boruto faces off against Mamushi and reawakens Karma for the first time in 2 years!
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 29 is titled “Pest Control”.
This chapter has 41 pages.
The color page features Boruto with his Karma activated, revealing the parts of his body healed with Karma.
Editor’s note: “A negotiation has been proposed!! Will Momoshiki lend him his power?!”
The chapter begins when Boruto made the deal with Momoshiki at the end of Chapter 25: “Those Girls” as Boruto clarifies he will only surrender his body only after Momoshiki takes down Jura and that even if he will not say it to him, Momoshiki knows how serious Boruto is.
Since both of their minds are tied together, that means there are no lies between them.
Boruto remarks that at this current state, Momoshiki has no hope for the future, so he is hoping to see Boruto dead and for Momoshiki to just move on and disappear from this world.
Both Boruto and Momoshiki acknowledge the Human Divine Trees as threats.
However, Momoshiki notes that Kawaki will come after him once he possesses Boruto’s body, which makes Boruto smirk as that was the plan from the start.
Momoshiki calls out Boruto for being a smug bastard and declares that he will get rid of Kawaki first when he gets the chance.
Boruto asks if Momoshiki will make the deal or not and Momoshiki agrees, saying Boruto can use the Karma if he likes.
Wait, the Jogan is no longer canon?
We return to the present where Boruto destroys one of the charging Mamushi’s clones on the face, leading to the others trying to crowd on Boruto but he easily cuts them down with one swing.
Shikamaru tells Boruto to check his 4 o’clock as two more Mamushi clones come and we finally see Boruto open his right eye for the first time in the whole manga…
And its a Byakugan?
This feels like a conflict with the established continuity of the anime, which is considered canon to the manga.
In Episode 7 of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime, we see that Toneri had given Boruto the Jogan or Pure Eye and its main power is the ability to detect malice.
However, the way this eye is portrayed feels consistent with the manga, which is why this is not given too much fanfare by comparison.
In Chapter 1 of the original Boruto, the eye looks exactly like a Byakugan.
Meanwhile in the anime’s version, in Episode 1, the anime has a dark gray sclera surrounding a glowing light-blue eye.
However, this eye is nothing new as we see Boruto have a Byakugan whenever Momoshiki possesses him.
If we combine the events of the manga together, this means that Boruto’s covered right eye was a Byakugan because he shares cells with Momoshiki via the Karma, especially after Momoshiki healed the damage Boruto sustained from Kawaki.
Furthermore, it is also possible that Momoshiki replaced the damaged right eye, a product from Kawaki’s attack on him in Chapter 78: “Super Idiot” to protect Sarada.
Assuming Momoshiki chose to repair the eye before this deal, Boruto chose to conceal the eye to prevent him from taking control.
Otherwise, it is more than likely that this eye was a Byakugan due to Momoshiki repairing it now.
And Boruto knew about this and chose to use the eye right away thanks to his ties with Momoshiki.
Judging from the lack of Jogan-related scenes in the manga, this looks to be the final version of Boruto’s right eye.
Boruto had a Byakugan because of Momoshiki and he never had the Jogan to begin with.
