Joy Boy Voice Actor Revealed in Latest One Piece Episode
The original voice of Luffy debuts in the official One Piece anime after 27 years, this time to take on the legendary role of Joy Boy.
On December 1, 2025, the voice of Joyboy has finally been heard on Episode 1151: “Her and Her Father’s Dream! Bonney’s Free Future”, which adapts 2 chapters, Chapter 1118: “The Most Free” and Chapter 1119: “Emet”, which are notable for being among the shortest chapters in the entire series at 13 pages each.
The voice actor for Joyboy is Urara Takano (Real Name:Hisako Takayama), who was the very first voice actress for Monkey D. Luffy in the first One Piece OVA, “One Piece: Defeat Him! The Pirate Ganzack!”, released on July 26, 1998, a year before the One Piece anime debuted.
Interestingly, the animation studio that produced this OVA is Production I.G, Inc., which has a subsidiary studio, WIT Studio—the same studio currently producing “The One Piece” anime remake.
Regarding her role, Takano comments
“I’m honored to perform in One Piece. A long time ago I worked on One Piece only once. That was 27 years ago. Now, among countless memories, I will once again be active as the character Joy Boy. Twenty-seven years is such a long time it almost feels like 800 or 900 years have passed. I will hold on to my original spirit and give it my all.”
