The War Devil Reborn! Fujimoto Makes His Sharpest Critique of America! Chainsaw Man Chapter 210 Review!
This Chainsaw Man chapter capitalizes on the horror of war and American imperialism just from presentation alone, all leading up to the return of the War Devil in her full glory.

In the previous Chainsaw Man chapter, somehow nukes have returned and the War Devil has regained her full powers.
Chainsaw Man Chapter 210 is titled, “Peace”
This chapter has 14 pages.
The chapter begins already with Yoru forgetting about Denji, having her favorite Devil/toy be the Nuclear Weapons Devil.
This was her stated goal since her introduction in the series, to make Chainsaw Man vomit up the Nuclear Weapons Devil.
As it turns out, that did not actually happen.
Instead, it is because America reinvented nuclear weapons from scratch.
The “tunnel effect” twist of last chapter is actually recontextualized here for something far darker.
Once again, we are reminded that the origin of all Devils, outside the Primal Fears, is humanity itself.
Humanity and devils coexist but since humans escalate conflicts, they essentially rebuild devils lost to history.
Even if Chainsaw Man ate and thus erased a devil from history, can that really stop humans from remaking them?
The erasure of certain concepts in real life, whether it is the destruction of historic property or the suppression of ideological movements, does not end the progress of humans.
In fact, humans can rediscover or even rebuild, by accident or by design.
Now Yoru makes a peace sign, which becomes relevant later, and tells the Falling Devil to become clothes.
The Falling Devil is confused but her whole being is untangled and winds around Asa to form a new set of clothes, an impossible act for a Devil from man-made fears.
The War Devil may be a Horseman, one of the four most powerful devils, but two chapters ago, the Falling Devil reminds Yoru that Primal Fears exist beyond humanity as they are the fear in all life that cannot be erased.
Yet now, look at the Falling Devil, who has stood unchallenged for the past 80 chapters.
Look at the Primal Devils, considered the immortal, untouchable supernatural forces of evil.
War has surpassed them, with the Falling Devil, the chef, being turned into a dress for a kawaii high school girl to wear.
War has entered the realm of reality-warping, to not only turn people into weapons but to turn “water into wine”, in a matter of speaking.
Yoru’s act of transubstantiation, which is what happens in the Christian Eucharist as well, shows that the Falling Devil may not be dead or destroyed but instead weaponized, albeit into clothes.
Is she alive per se? Probably but for now, she might be the first Primal Fear to be truly, fully defeated.
The Darkness Devil was sent to Hell and the Aging Devil is trapped in its own prison realm but they remain intact.
Meanwhile, although the Falling Devil by herself is still “alive”, she is just clothes worn by Yoru and will not fight back until some other force above either War or Falling can break her out of it.
War Surpasses Nature
This is the core thesis of the War Devil’s power growth, that when humans create something far worse than what nature can make, they forget those fundamental fears.
This is what Asa warned Denji about in Chapter 195: “Kill Me Tears”: a fate worse than death is humanity’s nihilistic progression towards endless cruelty.
War is just the beginning.
Chainsaw Man was not able to completely erase War but even if she was erased, would that have stopped wars full stop?
After all, there are still rocks, guns, weapons and even our own fists and hatred, anything we grasp and think of is a weapon to use against another person.
Chimpanzees wage wars but humans have made war into an artform.
Just the same, if humans find something, they will make use of it, for better or worse.
And that is how the Nuclear Weapons Devil is reborn even after being digested and erased by Pochita.
The same can be said of fears of specific wars and ideologies like the World War II Devil and the Nazi Devil.
Strangely, Fujimoto has not created a Communism Devil in spite of red scares but this could also be because the Cold War has not happened yet.
But thanks to the reinvention of Nuclear Weapons, America has started the Cold War against the USSR.
This means a new Cold War Devil could be made.
The War Devil might even be a factory for Devils, which ties into her connection as the supposed Mother of all Weapon Devils.
Yes, humans produce Devils as there is no known way for Devils to reproduce.
But with the close interspecies relationships, like with the Angel Devil having a human lover, is there a possibility that Devils can produce or link themselves to other Devils in a familial sense?
The War Devil has the ability to create weapons, weapons that people fear
So what if the Weapon Hybrids or Devils are either an inferior or “Artificial” form of Devil produced by War or between War and humanity that often end up as Hybrid to gain immortality and escape the reincarnation cycle?
The War Devil and America are like twins or even lovers who empower each other and are mirrors of each other.
And yes, you guessed it, Denji got NTR’ed by a country, the United States of America no less!
Fujimoto Delivers A Relevant, Horrific War Critique for the Decade
Chainsaw Man is no stranger to critiquing America and its war crimes.
In Chapter 178, literally saw the Statue of Liberty turn into the Gun Goddess, which also happens to be another way to read the Statue’s Japanese name.
The Gun Devil has contracts with both the President of the United States and the National Pistol Association of America that exchanged the lives of American citizens for the protection of American interests (i.e. killing Makima and gun rights respectively).
If you zoomed out, the charred corpses are lined up like the stripes on the American flag.
The flag is its identity.
Therefore, Americais building its identity from innocent bloodshed yet it comes out as “righteousness”, the current moral system.
If MAPPA or any production team could add more to this presentation, anime fans will understand this dark critique of the American empire.
Ever since the Palestinian struggle was revealed, beginning with the Gaza conflict that started on October 7, 2023, the world was more vocal in recognizing the role of the United States in creating war crimes.
Manifest Destiny fueled American settler colonialism in the 19th century that deprived Native Americans, Mexicans and neighboring populations of their right to home, resulting in silent dehumanization for the rest of time.
The American Dream lured in the hopes of immigrants to build brighter futures away from their chaotic homelands in Europe, Africa and Asia but end up being treated as second-class citizens or worse, as threats when they presented none, especially in the present day.
Globalization expanded American influence and preference, such that America’s military actions and interventions are seen as “benevolent” or “more preferred” than other powers, when in reality, they have committed many atrocities in the name of “freedom” and “democracy”, such as the support of various repressive dictatorships and in particular, endorsement for Israel, a country accused of war crimes through starvation and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian population.
This is why the chapter is titled, “Peace”.
It is the opposite of war but it is also war’s purpose.
War is waged for peace. Peace is created by war.
If there is a Peace Devil, that is War’s Fault.
Yoru’s declaration of love in the form of singing the US national anthem makes perfect sense.
America is her one true love, the empire of humanity that made her stronger and more beloved.
In her words, “America made me powerful, terrifying and attractive”.
America wages wars that increase the production of weapons through a mutual cycle of resentment, protectionism and assured self-destruction.
With the proliferation of weapons and war, war surpasses the primal fears of falling off or aging.
Because in war, you die brutally and you die fast.
War is beauty because it represents human progress and growth, the art of being human and it is shown when Yoru wears her preferred fashion, even in a human body.
Maybe she quite enjoys Asa’s body as the two are slowly merged into a singular or similar being.
Asa is forced to watch Yoru begin her plans for world domination and war.
The end of the world is here and even the Death Devil is spectator to the carnage of humanity.
The Devils are a product and mirror of humanity.
Humanity is the real Devil and now, those helpless victims, like Asa, are only left to watch the march of war.
Is Denji Dead?
The chapter ends with Denji seemingly entering an afterlife realm as he finds himself without injuries within the Fourth East High School.
Here, he comes across Fami, who immediately outs the truth.
She is not the Famine Devil but the Death Devil.
And she has yet another name: “Li’l D”.
Some fans have remarked that the translator did a poor job of translating Death’s nickname to appear funny.
She actually calls herself “Shi-chan” or “Death-chan”.
In English, something like “Little Death’, which is why the translator rendered it as “Li’l D” but the tone in the English translation removed the cutesy context, given that as much of a glutton as fake Fami is, she does present herself as a cute girl like all the other Four Horsemen do.
Chainsaw Man will be on break next week.
Chainsaw Man Chapter 211 will be released on August 13, 2025.
