Inuyasha Author’s Latest Manga Now Has An Anime
Mao, the current manga of Inuyasha’s Rumiko Takahashi, is set to have an anime adaptation coming next year.
On July 14, 2025, it was announced that Mao, the newest manga from Rumiko Takahashi, the author of Inuyasha, Urusei Yatsura, and Ranma 1/2, will finally be adapted into an anime.
This has been set up since the major announcement last December 24, 2024.
Alongside the trailer came a key visual featuring the eponymous protagonist, voiced by Yuji Kaji, most famous for his role as Eren Jaeger, the protagonist of Attack on Titan, and had voiced Mao in the promotion video back in 2021.
The studio that will produce the adaptation is Sunrise, which is also the studio that adapted Inuyasha and its sequel, Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon.
It also happens that the anime will be directed by Teruo Sato, the series director of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon and a regular episode director for the Inuyasha anime, meaning the creative team has a clear understanding of Takahashi’s vision.
Sunrise is also famous as the studio that adapted Cowboy Bebop, Code Geass, and Gintama.
The Mao anime will premiere in Spring 2026.
