In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, we learn how Samura kept both Uruha and Chihiro alive after cutting off their Lifelong Contracts and the battle between Samura and Chihiro begins!

Kagurabachi Chapter 83 is titled, “Enten”

This chapter has 19 pages.

The chapter begins with a flashback of Shiba and Chihiro talking about the truth they learned from Samura in Chapter 60: “Resurrection”, that the Sword Saint unlocked the True Realm of Shinuchi: Malediction and slaughtered 200,000 lives.

Shiba says that the Shinuchi was sealed because of the Malediction but admits the Enchanted Blades were necessary to end the Seitei War, still indicating that the island were a particularly violent force to be considered barbaric. This remains to the truth, unless we get some perspective from the people on the island but the Enchanted Blades feel like a necessary evil that Kunishige regretted ever making.

Chihiro wonders why he made Enten if he had those regrets.

Back to the present, Chihiro clashes with Samura and is surprised that his arm was not blown off by the impact of Samura’s White Purity Iai strike.

The narrator then brings up a legend from the Seitei War period,

“A murder of crows forebode the tellings of death…”

We of course connect the dots to Samura, who tells Chihiro if there really is a way to stop the Shinuchi without sacrificing any lives, including his own.

Chihiro says that he intends to break the Shinuchi so that no one has to die from the Lifelong Contract being broken.

If the sword is broken instead of the contract between Sword Saint and the Shinuchi, then none of the Enchanted Blade wielders will have to die and perhaps they can still use those swords.

Samura said that they tried many ways to do so but the sword remained unbroken.

In Chapter 17: “Tea”, during the final battle with Genichi Sojo during the Vs Sojo Arc Chihiro was able to break Cloud Gorger, which Samura points out here but even then he doubts Chihiro would be able to.

Samura says that swordsmanship is the same as physical strengthening, that the strength of a sword depends on the way spirit energy is circulated into it and the skill of the wielder in question.

This explains why the Shinuchi was unbreakable, because of the Sword Saint’s own skill.

So the only feasible outcome is for both the Sword Saint and Samura, the bearer of everyone’s crosses, to die.

Samura activates Crow, the ability to exchange places with the feathers that flutter in the wind.

Chihiro remarks that perhaps because he has improved in the art of swordsmanship that holding Enten feels more comfortable and Nishiki flows more naturally and lightly around him.

Samura comes forward to attack, teleports behind Chihiro, who uses Kuro, turning around to cut Samura.

Chihiro remarks that the Nishiki is able to defend by itself, as shown with his eyes being able to track the feather swapping.

He notices this through an ever so slight indication of Samura’s spirit energy on the other side of the swap.

Chihiro prepares to attack but suddenly, Chihiro was swinging at only Tobimune.

Samura is impressed Chihiro is able to read the subtle sign he uses before every switch as a feather near his hand allows Samura to bring Tobimune back, then he teleports to another feather to attack, which Chihiro notices and counters.

Samura then kicks Chihiro off the roof and into a pond.

As Chihiro sinks, we go back to the hospital scene and get Shiba’s explanation on how Kunishige forged the Enchanted Blades, explaining that he did not actually finetune the abilities of every blade, only a “general purpose”, for killing or support.

However, this was different for the seventh Enchanted Blade, Enten, because it was a collaborative effort but Chihiro says he only did the hammering.

Shiba says that Kunishige wanted to destroy the Enchanted Blades but they are imbued with Datenseki, which is still mysterious and surpasses human understanding.

This is the same material from the island that caused the Seitei War after all.

For 15 years since the end of the Seitei War, Kunishige was at war with himself, struggling with the dark legacy of the Malediction and Enchanted Blades.

Yet Chihiro became Kunishige’s light and Enten was born for Chihiro’s sake.

Shiba reminded Chihiro of how he was able to break Cloud Gorger with Enten. It was not Sojo’s comparative inexperience among the Enchanted Blade wielders but Chihiro’s skill and when Cloud Gorger fell into Chihiro’s hands, it was “led” to the right path.

Connecting Kunishige’s regrets with the future must have been the purpose of Enten.

The chapter ends with Chihiro seemingly picking up a dark colored goldfish, likely representing Kuro or Enten as a whole, as we transition to him rising from the pond with Enten in hand, declaring his intent to break the Shinuchi with Enten’s power.

Editor’s note: “And so the destiny of the fated 7th Enchanted Blade reveals itself – And now the time to showcase that power, has come.”
