One Piece Romance Spinoff in Production

Over at AnimeJapan 2025 on March 22, 2025, One Piece announced that there will be an anime adaptation of a spinoff series titled “Koisuru One Piece” or ‘One Piece in Love” to be released beginning April 1, 2025.

Unlike the traditional anime TV adaptation, this will be a “vertical anime” of 4 to 5 episodes released for five consecutive days starting April 1, 2025 on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

Written and illustrated by Daiki Ihara on June 18, 2018 for Shonen Jump Plus, this story has a romantic theme and is set in the modern world, with the characters taking their first names from the Straw Hat crew and who fall in love with the manga’s story as well.

Ryosuke Kanemoto, Ayane Sakura, Yuichi Nakamura cast for One Piece In Love Spinoff’s main characters, Yamamoto Luffy, Koyama Nami and Nakatsugawa Usopp respectively, with the Usopp character acting as the group’s leader.

This series is ongoing with 141 chapters and 32 extras or omakes within 9 volumes, meaning that we might see more episodes in the future.

However, the series has been on hiatus since November 2021 and thus will be returning with the announcement of the short anime.

In recent memory, One Piece would have a short film or special episode titled, “One Piece: Fan Letter” directed by Megumi Ishitani that was released on October 20, 2024 for the 25th anniversary of the One Piece anime.
